View every supported icon size

An ICNS file is a Mac icon family containing images at several sizes and color depths. Upload a file to see its extracted files. Open the images folder and click a PNG to preview or download it. Each supported image variant is available separately.

Supported ICNS formats and limits

The viewer supports classic monochrome, 4-bit and 8-bit palette icons, RGB icons with masks, embedded PNG and JPEG 2000 images, and supported ARGB entries. Tiny 16 × 12 icons and standard sizes through 1024 × 1024 are supported. Unknown entries and nested appearance families remain in the original download; the metadata JSON identifies entries that could not be previewed.

Input files are limited to 64 MiB and 256 image variants. Each job has a combined preview budget of 16 million pixels and a two-minute processing limit. Damaged or unsupported entries can produce partial results.

How do I open an ICNS file on Windows or Linux?

Use Choose ICNS above. Processing runs on our servers and the resulting PNG previews work in your browser, so no Mac application is required.

Can I convert ICNS to PNG?

Yes. Download a decoded variant as PNG, or use Download ZIP for the result files. Images retain their decoded dimensions and transparency. The original ICNS is also available.

Where do ICNS files come from?

Mac applications and custom folder icons use ICNS files. Use the DMG extractor or macOS PKG extractor to browse a package first. For an icon stored inside a resource fork, open the RSRC resource browser.
